Maciej „Irokez” Jewtuszko representing Berserkers Team, lately called „The Lithuanian Hunter” or „Polish Anderson Silva” only a month after Iron Fist 2 event in Szczecin, where he defeated an experienced Erikas Petraitis took part in Beast of the East 2 in Gdynia. He faced a Lithuanian fighter, Edvardas Norkeliunas who in 2008 won over #2 lightweight in Poland Maciej Gorski. Will his victory over Norkeliunas be a ticket to big career and larger MMA organizations? Click more to read a few words he said just after the fight.
Hi Irokez! First of all congratulations for your big victory! I’m sure this fight will open doors for you to bigger organizations. Lately you said that there have been talks in the US. What can you say about that?
Hi, thanks. I hope that this fight will open new opportunities for me to develop as a fighter. As for the talks I can’t say anything until the papers are signed. Unfortunately this is all I can say.
I know you’ve always dreamt of fighting in Japan. If you got an offer from the US and Japan on the same terms would you chose Japan without hesitation?
f course I’d choose Japan! I’m fascinated by this country and culture.
From what I’ve heard you were pretty much battered before the fight and there was a possibility you wouldn’t fight. What injuries did you have and how did they affect your game plan for your bout with Norkeliunas?
I was pretty much battered before Iron Fist 2, but now I was in pieces (laughs) but this fight was a big opportunity for me so I took the risk and accepted the challenge. I had three injuries but I’m not going to talk about them, because everybody has some problems and fights with injuries. However, they had an influence on my fight as I couldn’t do what I like most, that is throw a lot of punches and kicks. I had to rely on my ground game and as we can see from the result it was worth it.
Can you tell us in what time did you manage to reach the weight limit? Is it true that this time you cut from 82kg (180 lbs)? You also said that you have a very strict diet before the fight. Can you tell us what advice did you get from your dietitian Rafal Borysiuk?
As for my weight, it’s true I weight around 80kg (176 lbs). As for the diet I’m already used to it. I eat but I don’t eat full. Rest of the weight issues are my secret and let me not reveal them.
At the beginning of the fight you were caught in a tight triangle then your opponent switched to an armbar. Did you feel threatened at all?
Maybe not that I got caught but he surprised me with his guard. I didn’t expect him to be so offensive from the guard. Luckily I have so many ground aces in my club who tried these tricks on me and I knew how to get myself out.
Did you have an impression that after his attacks when he was unable to submit you, Edvardas slowed down a little bit as if he could not believe that you managed to escape from these submission attempts?
Edvardas did not slow down, after his attacks it was me who decided to turn the pace up (laughs).
Can you think of somebody now from Poland, Europe or the rest of the world who you would like to fight most?
There are many opponents who I’d like to face but I don’t want to name anybody. Together with my coach and manager Piotr Baginski we are open for any new fights and lucrative offers.
At the end I would like to wish you all the best and hopefully we will have the opportunity to watch your fights in one of the biggest organizations in the world and I wish I would be able to do an interview with you when you have a championship belt. I’ll leave some space for you to thank sponsors or anybody.
I would like to thank my sponsors “Stoprocent, “Manto”, “Takedown”, “Pit Bull”, “Milden”, “Alsecco” for helping me with my preparations and fulfilling my dreams. Greetings to everybody who read his interview and to those who supported me.
